How Things Have Changed at Our Modern Dental Office in Santa Clara

DentalAs a modern dental office, we are aware that things have changed in the past several decades. As technology has grown by leaps and bounds, these advancements translate into changes in how we treat teeth and make cosmetic improvements. As a patient, you can benefit from these advancements and the opportunity to keep your natural teeth intact and healthy, rather than potentially needing to have them extracted, as in years past.

Here are a few of the changes that have been made in dental technology:

You can now choose between amalgam and resin fillings

Upon visiting our modern dental office, patients now have options in regards to the type of fillings that the patient receives. While amalgam fillings used to be the only option for removing tooth decay, we can now place tooth-colored fillings that blend in with the surrounding tooth structure, as well. This is essential for completing a restoration that looks natural.

In fact, most of our patients cannot tell which of their teeth had cavities and which ones have always been healthy. However, amalgam fillings are long-lasting and if one prefers an option that has been proven to stand the test of time, this is available to patients, as well.

Dental care is more comfortable

Star Dental uses advanced dental tools and implement best practices to improve our patients’ experience. This makes it possible for us to provide patients with gentle dentistry that is entirely comfortable and will not cause any further irritation. If the patient is worried about visiting the dentist due to a previous dental phobia, do not be. We can help the patient overcome dental anxiety by showing how comfortable receiving dental care can be.

We work with an oral surgeon to permanently replace your missing teeth

One of the most significant advancements in dentistry is in how we replace missing teeth. We can replace teeth using dental implants. Previously, losing a tooth would mean that most people end up needing a removable denture or a fixed bridge to wear. Both are effective and still widely-used. However, they do not address the entire problem. When a tooth is lost, the patient loses both the roots and bone of the tooth.

This creates an issue with how one looks and the food one can eat, but it also can lead to resorption. Resorption is where the body begins to leach calcium out of the jawbone for use in the rest of the body. As a result, the facial structure can appear sunken or aged. We can stop the process of resorption using dental implants. For this procedure, a local oral surgeon will implant a titanium post under the gums and secure it to the jawbone.

This post acts as a new root and provides stimulation to the bone. The bone, in turn, provides stability for the new crown (tooth) that we will secure to the implant. While we typically complete this portion of the procedure in our dental office, the actual implant surgery will be completed by an oral surgeon at a different location. As a modern dental office in Santa Clara, we highly recommend this solution for patients who want to regain the full functionality of a missing tooth.
